Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker and RB Royce Freeman will split snaps with the first-team offense during the first preseason game Saturday, Aug. 11.

Huddle Up: Booker and Freeman are competing for the starting job and likely will continue to split snaps with the starters until the team names a winner. The team probably will use a committee regardless of who wins the competition, so both running backs will have fantasy value.

  • Posted: 7/29/2018 12:19pm ET

Denver Broncos RBs Royce Freeman, Devontae Booker, De'Angelo Henderson and Phillip Lindsay all received first-team reps Sunday, July 29, prompting Lindsay H. Jones of USA TODAY Sports to say the 'running back job is totally open.'

Huddle Up: This has been a familiar refrain throughout the spring and summer, although 9News' Mike Klis has emphasized Booker figures to be the lead back early on due to a 'good command' of the offensive playbook. Head coach Vance Joseph has repeatedly said he expects two or three backs will handle the load, so this has all the makings of being a committee backfield for most - if not all - of the 2018 season.

  • Posted: 7/22/2018 10:45am ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker has 'good command' of the offensive playbook and become a competent pass protector, according to Mike Klis of 9News, who added Booker is expected to start the season opener over Royce Freeman against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 9.

Huddle Up: This news figures to sink the current fifth-round ADP of Freeman and spike the 12th-round ADP of Booker temporarily at the very least. Denver head coach Vance Joseph has already stated he plans on utilizing two and possibly three backs all season long, so this has all the makings of being a 'hot-hand' backfield. Both Booker and Freeman need to be viewed as high-upside RB3s for the time being.

  • Posted: 5/12/2018 6:29pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman will have a chance to become a '1B' back to RB Devontae Booker, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com.

Huddle Up: Devontae Booker hasn't exactly stood out when given playing time in the past, and it sounds like Freeman will have the opportunity to earn a meaningful amount of touches. Consider him an upside RB5 for now.

  • Posted: 4/27/2018 6:43pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman will likely compete with RB Devontae Booker for the starting role, according to Mike Klis of 9News.com, but Klis expects Booker to open the season as the starter.

Huddle Up: Booker has battled injuries and has shown little explosiveness when on the field. Even if he does head into Week 1 as the starter, he looks like a RB3.

  • Posted: 4/16/2018 7:58am ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker is atop the depth chart after the release of RB C.J. Anderson Monday, April 16.

Huddle Up: This is subject to change as it's possible the team could draft Saquon Barkley if he makes it to No. 5. Booker has rushed for a paltry 3.6 yards per carry in 253 career rushes. If he's in position for a big workload, he'll be an RB3 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 12/24/2017 7:46pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker rushed eight times for 47 yards and caught five passes for 24 yards in a 27-11 loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 16. He also lost a fumble.

Huddle Up: Booker flashes occasional potential, but he remains a dynasty league stash for now.

  • Posted: 12/3/2017 6:18pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker rushed two times for eight yards and failed to catch his only target in a 35-9 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 13.

Huddle Up: After it appeared he was closing the gap with starter C.J. Anderson, Booker has barely touched the ball the last two weeks. He is no more than an insurance policy for Anderson right now.

  • Posted: 11/26/2017 7:25pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker rushed six times for 11 yards and caught two passes for 22 yards in a 21-14 loss to the Oakland Raiders in Week 12.

Huddle Up: Booker and C.J. Anderson continue to split carries almost evenly, and neither back is a great fantasy play. If you have to roll the dice on one, a slight edge goes to Booker because of his involvement in the passing game.

  • Posted: 11/19/2017 8:31pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker rushed 14 times for 44 yards and caught five passes for 54 yards in a 20-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11.

Huddle Up: Booker had his best game of the season, and he had more touches than C.J. Anderson. Expect a committee approach to continue in Denver, but Booker looks like a viable flex play in PPR formats.

  • Posted: 11/3/2017 8:15pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker has made the most of his limited touches, according to head coach Vance Joseph. 'He's a young guy with strong, fresh legs,' Joseph said. 'He has great ball skills. As we go along here, he should get more opportunities.'

Huddle Up: Booker isn't seeing enough touches to be considered a fantasy starter, but he is worth stashing in deeper leagues and keeper formats.

  • Posted: 10/30/2017 8:53pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker rushed for a season-high 40 yards on six carries and scored his first touchdown of the year in the team's Week 8 loss Monday, Oct. 30, versus the Kansas City Chiefs. He also had three receptions for 14 yards.

Huddle Up: Even with Denver losing decisively for most of this game, Booker was still able to chip in a solid performance that easily registers as his best of the campaign. Unfortunately for the second-year man out of Utah, C.J. Anderson is still around, meaning Booker's ceiling will always be severely capped. He's worth stashing on most rosters, however, and could be a useful option down the road.

  • Posted: 10/16/2017 5:16am ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker caught four of six passes for 78 yards in a Week 6 loss to the New York Giants.

Huddle Up: Booker may be a flex option going forward, as he flew under the radar screen in Sunday's loss. Booker hasn't had a role in the running game, but performances like this will keep him in Trevor Siemian's eye for future games.

  • Posted: 10/14/2017 7:42am ET

There is 'no chance' of the Denver Broncos trading RB Devontae Booker, according to a source.

Huddle Up: Booker doesn't appear to have a well-defined role in the Denver offense at the moment, with Jamaal Charles doing an impressive job as the backup to C.J. Anderson. He isn't worth stashing outside of keeper and dynasty leagues with deep rosters.

  • Posted: 9/29/2017 9:14pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker's (wrist) status for the Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders will be determined Sunday, Oct. 1, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

Huddle Up: With the emergence of Jamaal Charles as an effective backup to C.J. Anderson, Booker's role in the offense is murky at this point. Outside of keeper leagues, he doesn't need to be owned.

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker's (wrist) status for the Week 4 game against the Oakland Raiders will be determined Sunday, Oct. 1, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

  • Posted: 9/18/2017 5:42pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker's (wrist) status for Week 3 is uncertain at this point, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

Huddle Up: Booker probably will need to practice this week if he wants a chance to play, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. He probably would receive limited touches if he plays in Week 3 and can be avoided in most leagues if owners have better options.

  • Posted: 9/14/2017 3:19pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) was limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 14.

Huddle Up: Booker is expected to miss Week 2 but could return in the near future. He has a chance to become the No. 2 running back when he returns and should have some value in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 9/13/2017 5:47pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) is not expected to play in Week 2 even though he was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 13, according to head coach Vance Joseph.

Huddle Up: Booker is probably a week or two away from returning, so owners should keep an eye on the situation. Jamaal Charles should continue to serve as the No. 2 running back for now but should not be more than a flex option in deeper leagues.

  • Posted: 9/13/2017 2:36pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Sept. 13.

Huddle Up: With Booker absent for Week 1 it was Jamaal Charles seeing 10 touches in his stead behind the dominant C.J. Anderson. It's uncertain if Booker will go in Week 2, but if he does it will eat into the touches for Charles. When active, do not expect Booker to be thrust into a big role, however, as long as C.J. Anderson is running hard. A reasonable estimate is that Booker tops out at 10-12 touches upon his initial return.

  • Posted: 9/5/2017 2:02pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker's (wrist) X-rays on his injured wrist looked good and he may practice as soon as this week or next week, according to a source.

Huddle Up: When Booker does return, he'll need to fend off Jamaal Charles, DeAngelo Henderson and possibly Jonathan Williams for playing time, not to mention starter C.J. Anderson. He can be avoided in traditional leagues as long as Anderson is healthy.

  • Posted: 8/23/2017 1:34pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) returned to practice Wednesday, Aug. 23. He is hoping to be back in action by Week 3 of the regular season.

Huddle Up: Denver's backfield depth is hazy after C.J. Anderson. Rookie De'Angelo Henderson has flashed in the preseason, but he'll have to hold off Booker and Jamaal Charles, if Charles makes the team, for significant playing time.
