New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) is expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

Huddle Up: Owners should monitor Edelman's status during the season to see if he suffers any setbacks. He probably will be the main target in the passing game next season and can be a No. 2 or No. 3 fantasy receiver.

  • Posted: 8/26/2017 9:34am ET

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) suffered a complete ACL tear in his right knee and will miss the 2017 season, according to a source.

Huddle Up: This was the expected outcome after Edelman fell to the ground following a violent cut on his right leg in Friday's exhibition game against the Detroit Lions, but it is still a major setback for the Patriots as the slot receiver is Tom Brady's most trusted underneath weapon. Chris Hogan figures to see the biggest bump for fantasy purposes and should now be considered a borderline WR3 in PPR formats, while Danny Amendola, Malcolm Mitchell and Brandin Cooks should see more targets as well.

Updating an ongoing story, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) will have an MRI on his injured knee Saturday, Aug. 26, not Sunday, Aug. 27, as previously reported. The team suspects Edelman suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Huddle Up: If Edelman is out of for the season, Brandin Cooks should be the biggest beneficiary. Chris Hogan and Malcolm Mitchell should also enjoy a boost in value. Even without Edelman, Tom Brady would remain a QB1.

  • Posted: 8/25/2017 7:37pm ET

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) likely tore his anterior cruciate ligament Friday, Aug. 25, according to a source, but the full extent of the injury won't be known until an MRI Sunday, Aug. 27.

Huddle Up: The loss of Edelman isn't ideal, but Tom Brady still has enough firepower at his disposal to provide QB1 production. Brandin Cooks vaults firmly into the WR1 conversation, and Chris Hogan becomes an upside WR4. Malcolm Mitchell is also worth grabbing in the later rounds.

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) was seen on a cart with crutches following the preseason game against the Detroit Lions Friday, Aug. 25.

Huddle Up: We are still waiting for an official diagnosis for Edelman, but this news is far from encouraging. If he misses extended time, Brandin Cooks becomes a much safer bet to finish as a WR1. Chris Hogan would become an appealing WR4, and Malcolm Mitchell would be worth a late-round flier.

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee) suffered a knee injury during the preseason game Friday, Aug. 25, and is considered questionable to return.

Huddle Up: The Patriots should have an update on Edelman's status after the game, so owners should monitor the situation. He played very well in the second half of the 2016 season and is expected to be the No. 1 receiver for the Patriots. He can be considered a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver in fantasy leagues as long as he is not sidelined for long.

  • Posted: 7/12/2017 7:27pm ET

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman had the highest target percentage from the slot of any wide receiver in the NFL during the 2016 season. He was targeted 29.1 percent of the time when he lined up in the slot, while retired WR Steve Smith (28 percent) and Oakland Raiders WR Michael Crabtree (26.7 percent) finished second and third, respectively.

Huddle Up: This shouldn't be too much of a surprise, as Edelman has always been one of Tom Brady's favorite weapons throughout his career. That figures to continue in 2017, as despite entering his age-31 season, the eight-year veteran continues to be as productive as any wide-out in the league. Even with Brandin Cooks joining the receiving corps, it looks like Edelman can be trusted again as a high-end receiver.

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman can earn a maximum of $19 million with his two-year extension. He received a $5 million signing bonus, a $3 million salary in 2017 with a $750,000 roster bonus ($46,875 per game), a $250,000 workout bonus and $500,000 in incentives. In 2018, his $2 million base salary is fully guaranteed with a $500,000 workout bonus, $500,000 roster bonus and $500,000 in incentives. In 2019, his $2 million salary is guaranteed for injury with a $500,000 workout bonus, $500,000 roster bonus and $3.5 million in incentives.

Huddle Up: As strange as it may seem, Edelman's 1,106 yards were a career high last season. He also had 98 grabs but only three touchdowns. At 31, his name value may carry more weight than in fantasy as he has only had two 1,000-yard seasons. His playstyle doesn't help him, either, as he doesn't shy away from hits in the slot. He's still in the WR2 discussion, but there are options with more upside.

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman's two-year extension that he agreed on Thursday, June 8, is worth $11 million, with $9 million in total guarantees.

Huddle Up: Despite being on the verge of entering his age-31 campaign, Edelman has continued to prove his worth year in and year out, and is coming off a season in which he registered his highest reception (98) and yardage (1,106) totals since 2013. Interestingly, he was also never targeted more than he was last year. Thus, he's always worth a look in fantast drafts as a WR2.

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman agreed to a multi-year contract extension Thursday, June 8, according to sources. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Huddle Up: The Patriots officially hold on to their star receiver, who was entering a contract year. As stated earlier, Edelman is a low-end WR1 to high-end WR2 target with added value in PPR leagues.

  • Posted: 6/8/2017 11:49am ET

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman's contract extension talks are moving forward and an agreement should be made in the next day or so, according to sources.

Huddle Up: Edelman is entering a contract year, so it's no surprise that an extension would get done this offseason. He's the Patriots' most consistent wide receiver and deserves low-end WR1 to high-end WR2 consideration in PPR formats.

  • Posted: 5/21/2017 5:40pm ET

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman is in the final year of his contract, but former teammate Heath Evans said he doesn't expect a contract dispute like the one that saw WR Wes Welker leave New England and sign with the Denver Broncos in free agency. 'I don't think we're going to see that with Jules,' Evans said. 'I think Jules embraces the grind-it-out-for-the-common-good mentality.'

Huddle Up: The addition of Brandin Cooks and a healthy Rob Gronkowski could eat into Edelman's targets, but he has Tom Brady's trust, and that should keep him comfortably in the WR2 conversation, especially in PPR formats.
