Huddle Up: Kaepernick is easily the most talented quarterback available, but his off-field stances have caused friction with some teams. This situation will need to be monitored depending on the severity of Tannehill's injury.

Huddle Up: Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan is known to love Kellen Moore as Dak Prescott's backup, so this report should not come as much of a surprise. Kaepernick probably has no desire to compete for a backup job either since he believes he is still a starting quarterback in the league.

Huddle Up: Kaepernick may be the best quarterback available, but time is running out on him having any fantasy value whatsoever entering the 2017 season. It's unlikely that will change, as it appears the former Super Bowl-starting quarterback will have to ultimately settle for a backup role.

Huddle Up: Wilson's job is not in jeopardy. Kaepernick and Griffin both possess similar playing styles to Wilson, though, so signing either of them as Wilson's backup makes sense. Continue to draft Wilson as a QB1.

Huddle Up: Kaepernick is the most talented free-agent quarterback remaining and is actually coming off a nice season. He managed over 2,700 total yards and 18 total touchdowns in just 12 starts. Kaep has starter ability, but he obviously has no value of now. If he is signed, he'll be worth taking a shot on in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.

Huddle Up: He averaged 187 passing yards and 1.33 touchdowns per game last season along with 39 rushing yards. He only threw four picks last season, which was a vast improvement. He is shell of the dynamic dual threat that took his team to the Super Bowl four years ago. He's a meager QB2 in fantasy.

Huddle Up: Kaepernick's fantasy hourglass is getting pretty thin. He could be a midrange QB2 at best right now.
Posted: 2/14/2017 10:00pm ET
Huddle Up: Kaepernick ended up putting together a pretty nice season, finishing with 16 touchdowns versus only four interceptions, while recording a 90.7 QB rating -- his best since 2013. Furthermore, he averaged nearly 40 rushing yards per game. With a new coaching staff and general manager, San Francisco ultimately may decide to go in a different direction, but if Kaepernick still has a starting job next year, he could end up being a solid QB2 option.

Huddle Up: Kaepernick-to-Denver looked like it was going to happen last offseason, but the compensation can never get worked out, and the Broncos ended up sticking with Trevor Siemian and drafting Paxton Lynch. Denver has reaffirmed its commitment to developing both several times already this offseason, so it appears Kaepernick will have to look elsewhere for a potential starting gig if he opts out of his deal with San Francisco.

Huddle Up: Kaepernick has thrown for 10 touchdowns over his past six games, and outside of that disastrous snow game in Chicago in Week 13 he has been a borderline low-end QB1 or must-start QB2 down the stretch in most fantasy formats.
Posted: 12/18/2016 10:51pm ET
Huddle Up: Kaepernick had an OK game, but he did not have a huge statistical game against the league's worst-ranked passing defense. He remains more of a QB2 in fantasy leagues headed down the stretch.

Huddle Up: The Falcons defense has given up plenty of points this year, but Kaepernick is still nothing more than a desperation QB2 in Week 15.
Posted: 12/6/2016 10:16am ET
Huddle Up: After about a month-long run as the second-best quarterback in fantasy behind Aaron Rodgers, the 49ers only allowed Kaepernick to throw five passes and run six times before benching him in the fourth quarter during what was supposed to be a very good matchup against an injury-riddled Chicago Bears defense. The Jets arguably present a better matchup and he'll be at home this time around, but the risk of trusting him outside of a contrarian play in DFS is just too high during the fantasy playoffs.

Huddle Up: Kaepernick has posted decent numbers since taking over the starting job and has six touchdowns and one interception over the last three games. Kaepernick can be a low-end No. 1 quarterback against certain opponents moving forward.

Huddle Up: Kaepernick has been one of the most pleasant surprises in the fantasy realm after taking over as the 49ers' starter. His running ability gives him a distinct advantage over pocket passers from a fantasy perspective and he should no longer be overlooked. In fact, he should be started this week in a favorable matchup against an ailing Chicago Bears defense.

Huddle Up: Kaep has been more than capable of exploiting favorable matchups in recent weeks. The Niners have midrange fantasy schedule the rest of the way, so keep him in mind for streaming and DFS purposes.

Huddle Up: Kaepernick had a fairly decent performance against the Patriots in rainy and sloppy conditions. The 49ers can expect better weather in their Week 12 matchup in Miami. He remains a solid QB2 in most fantasy formats.
Posted: 11/13/2016 9:47pm ET
Huddle Up: Kaepernick fared pretty well against a solid defense actually, and he'll face another challenging defense when the New England Patriots visit next weekend. Kaep remains more of a streaming option if your primary option is on a bye.

Huddle Up: It wasn't all great, as Kaepernick did lose a fumble. He entered with 330 passing yards and two touchdowns in his previous two starts combined, but this line wasn't terribly surprising considering the New Orleans Saints have a terrible pass defense. If Kaep is able to replicate this production in Arizona in Week 10 against a good defense then he can be trusted in fantasy leagues again.
Posted: 10/23/2016 9:58pm ET
Huddle Up: The 49ers got off to a solid start with 14 points in the first quarter, but managed just three in the final three quarters. Kaepernick hasn't provided a big shot in the arm for the offense or fantasy owners, and he is only worth rostering in the deepest of leagues and those formats which start two quarterbacks. The 49ers are off in Week 8.
Posted: 10/17/2016 12:32pm ET
Huddle Up: Kaepernick was OK in his first start of the season. What makes him attractive from a fantasy standpoint is his running ability. He led the 49ers with 66 rushing yards last week. The matchup is decent, but he is best used as a cheap play in daily formats in order to spend up at other positions.
Posted: 10/16/2016 1:18pm ET
Huddle Up: Kaepernick had some problems completing passes during the game with 16 incompletions but was able to move the ball with his arm and legs. Kaepernick should keep the starting quarterback moving forward and could be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.
Posted: 10/12/2016 2:48pm ET
Huddle Up: Kaepernick will be the starting quarterback for the 49ers in Week 6 and likely will keep the job if he plays well. Owners may want to see how he performs in Chip Kelly's offense before considering him a fantasy option.
Posted: 10/7/2016 9:00pm ET
Huddle Up: By eliminating the injury guarantees, the 49ers may be more likely to play Kaepernick this season. Even if he plays, there is no guarantee he will be productive, so he is nothing more than speculative stash at this point.
