Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah is on the roster bubble as the team has a hard decision to make before the 53-man roster deadline, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Huddle Up: Abdullah has a ton of talent and a checkered injury history. He's worth stashing as an RB5 to see where he could wind up.

  • Posted: 5/12/2018 9:40am ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah said he was frustrated with the role he had in 2017 because he did not receive consistent touches during games.

Huddle Up: Abdullah probably will not have a big role in the offense again this season with LeGarrette Blount, Kerryon Johnson and Theo Riddick on the roster. Owners should monitor his situation during training camp to see what role he will receive, but he likely will not be a great fantasy option.

  • Posted: 4/15/2018 12:35pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah would presumably be the easiest running back to move from the roster this offseason because he?s in the final season of his rookie contract and his role appears to be less defined than LeGarrette Blount's or Theo Riddick's, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein.

Huddle Up: Abdullah could never get or stay on the good side of the previous administration in Detroit despite being the clear top back on the roster, and he is not tied to the either the general manager or the head coach in place now. At this point, he would likely benefit from a change of scenery. If he gets dealt this spring or summer, Abdullah could finally live up to his previous fantasy hype if he can find a way to improve his ball security and durability.

  • Posted: 3/2/2018 7:15pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah has 'three-down value,' according to general manager Bob Quinn, but Quinn said he will have to perform well this offseason to 'prove himself' to the new coaching staff.

Huddle Up: Abdullah disappointed as the lead back last season, and even if he breaks camp as the starter, he projects as a RB3.

  • Posted: 12/24/2017 4:26pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah ran six times for 21 yards in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals and he added one grab for five yards on two targets.

Huddle Up: Abdullah's days as the primary back in Motown appear to be over, as he just hasn't been able to take the job and run with it. Tion Green averaged 6.1 yards per tote and he found the end zone. He might get a long look in Week 17 with the team out of the playoffs, as the team evaluates what it has in Green.

  • Posted: 12/16/2017 6:34pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah rushed on time for eight yards and caught three passes for 13 yards in a 20-10 win over the Chicago Bears Saturday, Dec. 16.

Huddle Up: Abdullah had a minimal role in his return from a neck injury. He should see more touches going forward, but he is still a desperation flex play.

  • Posted: 12/14/2017 12:20pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) fully participated in practice Thursday, Dec. 14, and is not on the injury report for Week 15.

Huddle Up: Abdullah has missed the last two games because of the injury but should be in uniform against the Chicago Bears. It is not known if he will regain his starting job but should have a decent role in the offense. He likely will share playing time with Theo Riddick during the game and can be benched if owners have better options.

  • Posted: 12/13/2017 2:48pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) was a full practice participant Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Huddle Up: Abdullah is expected to return this week after a multiple-week absence. Unfortunately, he hasn't been much of a factor when healthy this year and will split time with Theo Riddick. Keep Abdullah on your bench.

  • Posted: 12/13/2017 8:03am ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) is expected to return in Week 15.

Huddle Up: Abdullah may take a backseat to the scorching-hot Theo Riddick against the Chicago Bears, who pose a tough matchup against the RB position. Abdullah is a flex option, but he's far from a sure thing.

  • Posted: 12/12/2017 2:55pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) participated fully in practice Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Huddle Up: Abdullah seems to be in the bad graces of head coach Jim Caldwell. Abdullah has been injured, but his play has been lacking too. After Theo Riddick's breakout performance last week, Abdullah may be coming off the bench in Week 15. He's too risky to start with a fantasy title at stake.

  • Posted: 12/10/2017 5:55am ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) is not expected to play in Week 14's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Huddle Up: Abdullah was a limited practice participant throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. However, his possible deactivation for this afternoon could be related more to performance than health. RB Theo Riddick should see a decent amount of playing time and is worthy of consideration as a flex option in PPR fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 12/8/2017 2:41pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) worked on a limited basis in practice Friday, Dec. 8, and he is listed as questionable for Week 14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Huddle Up: Abdullah is a risky fantasy play at this point. If he is inactive it would be Theo Riddick, Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner filling the void. When healthy Abdullah is more of a low-end RB3 or flex play.

  • Posted: 12/7/2017 1:22pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) was limited in practice Thursday, Dec. 7.

Huddle Up: Abdullah's situation is one to shy away from even in a great matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Abdullah is not guaranteed to play at this point, and if he does he could be limited. Theo Riddick makes for a nice PPR flex either way.

  • Posted: 12/6/2017 1:26pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Huddle Up: There are no indications the injury is of the serious nature, but if he were forced to miss time it would be Theo Riddick, Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner picking up extra work. When healthy, Abdullah is a RB3 or flex fantasy play in most formats at this point.

  • Posted: 12/3/2017 5:46am ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) is not expected to play in Week 13's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Huddle Up: Abdullah was listed as questionable on the injury report but was only able to participate in practice on a limited basis Friday, Dec. 1. RB Theo Riddick is expected to start and receive the bulk of the carries versus Baltimore and is worthy of consideration as a flex option in PPR fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 12/1/2017 5:11pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) was limited during practice Friday, Dec. 1, and is listed as questionable for Week 13.

Huddle Up: Abdullah has a chance to play in Week 13, but owners will need to check the inactive list before deciding in their lineups. He could be limited if he is active for the game, so owners may want to look for healthier options to use.

  • Posted: 11/30/2017 1:03pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) did not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 30.

Huddle Up: It appears Abdullah may miss the Week 13 game if he is not able to practice Friday, Dec. 1, so owners will need to monitor the situation. Theo Riddick, Zach Zenner and Dwayne Washington probably would see more work if Abdullah sits out, but only Riddick has value in fantasy leagues.

  • Posted: 11/29/2017 1:27pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (neck) was absent from practice Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Huddle Up: Abdullah is riding a cold two-game streak in which he has totaled 78 yards from scrimmage. The Lions as a whole haven't been able to get much going on the ground all season. If Abdullah ends up not playing then Theo Riddick is worth a look as a PPR flex, while Dwayne Washington would sneak in as a standard sleeper.

  • Posted: 11/23/2017 5:07pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah rushed for 14 yards on six carries against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 12. He also caught three passes for 29 yards during the game.

Huddle Up: Abullah received a majority of the carries during the game but has to share the playing time with Theo Riddick. He will be facing a solid Baltimore Ravens defense in Week 13 but could be a flex option in some leagues.

  • Posted: 11/19/2017 2:34pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah rushed 11 times for 22 yards in Week 11 against the Chicago Bears.

Huddle Up: Abdullah was able to salvage the stat line with two grabs for 13 yards and a touchdown, however. He remains more of an RB3 or flex fantasy option at this point, especially with a difficult matchup against the Vikings looming on Thanksgiving in Week 12.

  • Posted: 11/10/2017 9:27pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah said everyone is to blame for the offense's struggles running the ball near the goal line, and offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter said it's 'tiny details' that are stopping Detroit from scoring touchdowns in those situations.

Huddle Up: Abdullah has been leading a lackluster Detroit running game all year, but after a couple of fumbles last week, it wouldn't be a shock to see him lose a few touches. He is a flex candidate against the Cleveland Browns in Week 10.

  • Posted: 11/6/2017 9:19pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah registered a season-high 21 rush attempts for 48 yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 9 victory Monday, Nov. 6, against the Green Bay Packers. In addition, he had one reception for nine yards, but Abdullah also fumbled the ball twice in the game, with the Packers recovering one of them.

Huddle Up: There was some good and bad to this performance from the 24-year-old. The good, of course, is that he found the end zone for the second time this season, while also reaching 20 carries in a game for the second time as well. The bad, though, might outweigh that, as both of Abdullah's fumbles occurred deep in Green Bay territory, and following the second one at the one-yard line (which Detroit recovered), he received exactly zero rushes the rest of the way. Owners need to monitor this situation as a result.

  • Posted: 11/3/2017 9:15am ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah recently told reporters while he has no plans to ask Otis for a bigger role in the red zone, he is more than willing to help the team improve on its last-place ranking in short-yardage conversions (33.3 percent conversion rate on third- and fourth-and-1, far below the NFL average of 66.5 percent).

Huddle Up: The Lions have somewhat followed through on giving Abdullah more work this season, but he has no carries on third down this season and only eight in the red zone. Dwayne Washington and Zach Zenner have served as the primary short-yardage backs and head coach Jim Caldwell doesn't appear to be in any rush to change things up, putting a fair share of the blame on the offensive line for being unable to hold up in those situations. Until that changes, Abdullah will likely remain a RB3 in fantasy.

  • Posted: 10/29/2017 8:52pm ET

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah rushed 11 times for just 27 yards in Week 8 against the Pittsburgh Steelers while adding three grabs for 11 yards.

Huddle Up: The Lions continue their search for a 100-yard rusher in a single game, now going on four years since Reggie Bush accomplished the feat on Thanksgiving 2013. Abdullah will regroup and try to hit the mark in Week 9 on the road against the Packers on Monday Night Football. Ironically, that's the last team to give up 100 yards to a Lions rusher.
